The Project

The Let’s Change the Talk Campaign is built on young peoples’ experiences and stories to better understand what communication they find most effective in helping them develop healthy intimate relationships and reduce risky sexual behavior.

The overarching goal of this project is to create research-based and adolescent-designed public service announcements (PSAs) to encourage parents to talk to their children about dating, intimate relationships, and sexual health. To reach this goal, Dr. Holman and her research team collaborated with high school adolescents in Nebraska, as well as undergraduate students at Creighton University.

Young people’ perspectives surrounding conversations about sex-related topics is critical to helping parents know:

  • When to talk to them.
  • What topics to cover.
  • How to engage and behave in these often difficult conversations.
